The 5th race on November 9th was in honor of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Grand Worthy President Mike Lagervall and his wife Martha. Mike placed two bets on the 5th race. He bet that either the 4th or 7th horse would win.  As you see by the picture, the 6th horse won.  He may not know how to pick a winning horse but the Fraternal Order of Eagles sure knows how to pick a winning leadership team with Mike and Martha!

This year State Aerie President Larry Robillard announces the Christmas gathering will be held on Friday December 17th. This is an informal gathering and “Just For Fun”. November is American Diabetes Month and as all of you know, the Eagles have made diabetes research the focal point of the organizations charitable efforts through The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center.
Nearly 24 millions Americans live with diabetes and 57 million more face a high risk of developing the disease. The time to stop the spread of diabetes is now. Included under the resources tab of our Diabetes Research Center page at foe.com are several tools for you to utilize throughout the month to help educate friends, neighbors and family members about the effects of diabetes and what they can do to join the Eagles in finding a cure.

New mGive text giving cards have been placed on the website for you to print and cut out for distribution in your community that help spread the word of the DRC beyond the walls of your local Aerie or Auxiliary. This tool is intended to generate pledges from non-members.

Three Letters to the Editor have been provided in Word format for you to edit and distribute to local publications to help educate their readership on what the Eagles do on a daily basis to help keep the community and our great countries thriving through community service.

Six Faces of Diabetes Profiles are available to share the stories of Eagle members and their families who are stricken by diabetes on a daily basis. These profiles help members and non-members grasp what it is like to live with the disease.

A video detailing the Diabetes Research Center and the Eagles' partnership with The University of Iowa is available to share with your Aerie/Auxiliary or to use during open house events to help educate prospective members.

Additionally, Sunday, Nov. 14, is National Diabetes Day. We encourage our Aeries and Auxiliaries to hold open events on this day and spread the concept of People Helping People to everyone in their communities. Diabetes affects everyone - not just Eagles.

Please take full advantage of the resources provided and remember that Every Eagle Counts in the fight against diabetes.

To the New York State AERIE & AUXILARY OFFICERS:
I would like to personally and publicly thank two of your New York State Officers, President Larry Robillard and Madam Conductor Tracy Suttle.
Every Anniversary, Convention, Conference, Zone Meeting or just plan old trip to visit neighboring Aerie’s, they invite along and take the ultimate care of my Mother –Helen Myhberg. Because of them, Mom who will be 85 this March is forever on the road, and this my friends keeps her going. She always has the next- Tracey & Larry Journey to look forward too, She has the opportunity to see old friends and meet new ones. Our family never has to worry about her when she’s on the road with these two. She was not able to attend the last Convention in June when Larry was installed as President, her granddaughter chose that weekend to get married, I though for a minute there, that possibly grandma was going to be a no show at the wedding, because she so wanted to be at the convention as one of Larry’s ladies in PINK. I love these two wonderful people for the love, generosity, and the time they give to my mother, and I thank them.

A life was saved today! Donna McChesney, a New York State Auxiliary officer, was saved today thanks to the quick actions of Auxiliary member Judy Wright.
It all happened at the Addison New York Aerie #3904. Here’s what Donna had to say about her ordeal:
“Today I got a life time of flashes before your eyes type situation. We were doing a chicken BBQ at the Aerie. I was helping put dishes in dishwasher and had put a piece of cake in my mouth. It was a little dry and became lodged in my throat; I couldn't breathe and was at the stage of almost passing out".
“Today we have a hero, a guardian Angel, as far as I'm concerned Judy Wright one of our bartenders, came up behind me an upward thrust, and opened my airway immediately, I was so scared as things were getting really blurry.  I have a couple of sore spots, but I'm breathing and ok now. She is my hero.”

With some Aerie's starting Eagle Rider's Club's, please know your aerie needs to change it's by-laws before the club is started.  
Eagle Rider’s Club            
Section 116.5. A local Aerie may establish in its By-Laws an internal organization known as “Eagle Riders”. (a)  The members of the “Eagle Riders” shall be members in good standing of the Order or its Auxiliaries who are motorcycle riders or who support the events of the “Eagle Riders”. (b) The Purpose of the “Eagle Riders” is to promote the participation of its members therein and there enjoyment of leisure time, social, recreational. Cultural, charitable and community services activities. (c)  “Eagle Riders” may conduct its affairs autonomously under its own constitution and By-Laws, with the power to admit members, raise money through social events and other projects and maintain treasury of its own and make the expenditures of its funds as its members shall decide appropriate and proper for its purposes. No portion of its funds shall inure to the benefit of any member or any other private person. (d) All officers and other members or employees, who shall handle funds, shall be bonded in accordance with section 94.1 in such amount as set forth in their By-Laws, and they shall be subject to regular monthly and semi-annual audit by the Aerie Auditor. (e)   At all times, “Eagle Riders”, shall be subject to the jurisdiction and control of the By-Laws of the Aerie and Constitution and Statutes of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Last Charter Member of Hoosick Falls New York Dies
Leverett "Pa" LeBarron passed away Monday night.   We believe the services are going to be Thursday and Friday but not confirmed yet.  "Pa" was the only living Charter Member of the Hoosick Falls New York Aerie #2467, Instituted on December 2, 1945 and he was 100 years old.  He has donated a LOT of large items and money to #2467 over the years not to mention much service.   We already set up an annual scholarship fund in his name and the first recipient received it at graduation this past June.  It goes to a Hoosick Falls Central School Senior going off for Horticultural Studies. His Daughter is Lorraine Surdam (only living Auxiliary Charter Member). His Grandson (Richard Surdam) has been an officer as well as his Grand daughter -in-law Linda being our 2 year President and current PWP.
08.28.2010 Update...   HILDA AND I WENT DOWN TO PA'S SERVICE BECAUSE HE GAVE HIS DAUGHTER A LETTER TO BE GIVEN TO ME.  IT ASKED THAT I DO THE FUNERAL SERVICES. I CONTACTED LARRY ROBBILARD (NYS AERIE PRESIDENT),  DONNY Y (NYS AERIE SECRETARY AND ED GRADWELL (NYS AERIE TRUSTEE) TO HELP WITH THE SERVICE.  FRIDAY EVENING (8/27/2010) AT THE WAKE THEY WERE 57 PEOPLE THAT SIGNED THE REGISTER.  FRIDAY 11 A.M. 61 CAME TO FUNERAL.  ALONG WITH OTHERS, DONNY,  ED GRADWELL AND I SERVED AS PAULBEARES.  AT GRAVE SIDE, 68 PEOPLE GATHERED TO PAY THEIR FINAL RESPECTS.   THEN TO THE AERIE WHERE 70 PLUS ENJOYED A BUFFETT AND HOURS OF FAMILY CATCHING UP ON THOSE THINGS FOLKS MISSED BY NOT KEEPING IN TOUCH. PA WAS MY PARTNER FROM DAY ONE OF MY FIRST DAY OF MEMBERSHIP 4/3/1963.  HE WILL CONTINUE TO BE A TRUE ASSET IN THE LESSONS  OF THE EAGLES.  THREE OF HIS GRANDSONS HAVE SINCE APPLIED FOR MEMBERSHIP.  IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY I AM POSITIVE THAT ALL THE RITUAL TEAM OF GLENS FALLS NEW YORK #2486 HAD A GREAT VISIT.  THANK YOU FOR COVERING THE PUBLIC RELATIONS ON THE GOOD OUR EAGLE FAMILY CAN BE TO EACH  OTHER AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS.   CHARLIE STRAUB NEW YORK STATE CHAPLIN

Message from Heather Love Cobleskill FOE AUX #2695 Sec Concerning Anniversary Dinner August 21st, 2010

    I wanted to send out info regarding our anniversary dinner in Aug.  First of all, I wanted to inform the aux members that this is the aerie anniversary, not a joint anniversary w/ our aux.  We would enjoy seeing any aux member, as everyone is welcome to attend, however I didn’t want the ladies to be mislead that it was an aux celebration.    

·         Our ann. dinner will be held on Sat, 8-21 @ 6:00 in our aerie home. 

·         The menu will consist of either prime rib ($20) or stuffed can breast ($18) including a salad, vegetables and dessert.

·          We are asking people to RSVP by Sat, 8-14 as this event will be catered by one of our members.  

·          Please RSVP by email or to our home phone # (leave message on answering machine) @ 518-234-2949 and indicate whether you would like beef or can and how many dinners if you are calling for a group.  It would be helpful to leave a contact phone #  in the event we have any questions regarding your message and need to follow up w/ a call.

GLENS FALLS - Arthur Leo Gonyea, 87, a resident of Glens Falls passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at his home following a long illness.
He was born on June 30, 1923, in Glens Falls and was the son of Arthur G. and Anna Mae Yarter Gonyea.
Mr. Gonyea was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War  II. He was a retired carpenter of Local 370. Prior to moving to Glens Falls he resided on the Gansevoort Road in South Glens Falls, for 35 years. Arthur was active for the Fraternal Order of Eagles Glens Falls Aerie 2486 and the Saratoga Aerie 2586. He was the past president of both and Past New York State President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was also past commander and a current life member of VFW Post 420 in Saratoga.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mildred who passed away in 1981, and also a brother, Louis H. Gonyea. Survivors include his four sons: Arthur L. Gonyea and his companion, Susan Peters, of South Glens Falls, William A. Gonyea and his companion, Pamela Oberdick, of Saratoga Springs, Thomas R. Gonyea and his wife, Ann, of Auburn, N.H. and Paul J. Gonyea of Glens Falls. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Regan and Denny Funeral Home, 94 Saratoga Road, South Glens Falls, N.Y. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery, South Glens Falls.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his name to Glens Falls Hospital, Renal Dialysis Center, Broad Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
Arthur’s family would like to express a special thanks to Glens Falls Hospital staff on 3W and the staff at the Renal Dialysis Center.

Cobleskill- Mitcheal Maxwell, 64, passed away peacefully

The Cobleskill long term Treasurer and New York State Aerie Hall of Fame member, Mitch Maxwell passed away at 10 PM last night.  A service will be held for him in Cobleskill next Sunday, June 6 at 1 PM. Mitcheal Maxwell, 64, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital with his beloved wife at his side after a brief illness. Mitcheal was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, the son of Charles Edward and Hannah (Hulse) Maxwell. He was a 1964 graduate of Middleburgh Central School and attended classes at Jamestown Community College. He left college to join the United States Marine Corp. in 1965 and served for two years. He was wounded in Vietnam where he received a Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge from the USMC, he worked for General Electric for a short time. He then joined the New York State Police where he served Schoharie County for twenty years retiring in 1988 as an investigator. After his retirement, Mitcheal opened “Grandmax Motors”, a used car business with his brother and other retired NYSP investigators. He was a proud member and treasurer of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #2695. He was also a member of the Association of NYS Former Troopers, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5088, American Legion Post #1261, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Teresa Maxwell of Cobleskill; daughter, Catherine (Richard) Bender of Fultonham; son, Charles (Susan) Maxwell of Middleburgh; sister, Barbara Becker of Fultonham; two brothers, Brian Maxwell of Gulfport, MS, and John (Christy) Maxwell of Oklahoma City, OK; four grandsons, Mason and Keaton Bender, Charlie and Adam Maxwell; three nieces and two nephews. A Memorial Service with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh with Rev. Carol Coltrain of the Huntersland United Methodist Church officiating. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 11 AM to 1 PM, prior to the service. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the F.O.E. #2695, Legion Drive, Cobleskill. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, P.O. Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092 or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 795 East Main St., Suite 11, Cobleskill, NY 12043. Exclusive provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.   We know many of our Aerie’s are having their installation of Officers at that time but won’t it be nice to mention Mitch’s name in your service.

Phillip D. Tice will be installed as Grand Worthy President of The Fraternal Order of Eagles on Saturday, May 29. The installation ceremony is set for 2 p.m. at Parkersburg Aerie No. 2307, 627 Lubeck Ave., Parkersburg, W.Va. A light reception will follow the installation, and formal attire is required.

Margaret Plumadore
Plumadore, Margaret TROY Margaret "Ma" (Charland) Plumadore, of Troy, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Albany Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 22, 1919 in Standish, N.Y., Ma was the daughter of the late George and Lucy Cote Charland. She attended school in Standish where she met and married her childhood sweetheart, Joseph F. Plumadore, with whom she spent 71 wonderful years. Ma enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, painting ceramics, and gardening. Her lifelong passion was raising her family and was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren. In addition to her beloved husband Joe, Ma is survived by her eight children, Joseph G (Gerry) Plumadore Sr., Barbara "Sue" (the late Joe ) Derkowski, Mary Lou Plumadore, James C. (Jean M) Plumadore Sr., Linda (Eddie) Gorski, Robert (Marsha) Plum-adore I, John M. (Kathy) Plumadore and Gary "Neaks" (Melody) Plumadore; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Shirley) Char-land and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two grandsons, two great-grandsons, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral service 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at St. Joseph's Church, 416 Third Street, Troy. Family and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bowen & Parker Bros Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, N.Y. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Troy. A special thanks to the ICC staff and 5th floor nurses at Albany Memorial who gave Ma such good care and helped the family though this difficult time. Because Ma so loved ALL the children, in lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Janet Bruning has let me know that Janet Sechler is in ECMC Hospital. She had a heart attack. They put an outside pacemaker on her and did an angiogram. They found several blockages yesterday.  Today they are going to try putting stents in to open everything up then they will determine if she needs a permanent pacemaker. She asked to have cards sent to her home because she has no idea how long she will be in hospital. Debbie Parsons

Update: Just got off the phone with Merle. Janet's heart stopped three times and they did have a temp. pacemaker on her. She has clogged arteries and are putting stints in. Even with all she's been thru, Merle says she is in good sprits. Bob Yager
Janet Sechler is in the hospital with a heart condition. Janet Sechler is being transferred to ECMC Hospital in Buffalo tomorrow for further tests. She said she is sorry to miss the anniversary dinner on Saturday (Johnson City) and sends her love to everyone. More information will follow. Some of the things Bruce has helped the Eagles do was to legalize the Queen of Hearts game along with many other bingo and bell jar enhancements. PLEASE SEND BRUCE A NOTE OF THANKS FOR THE YEARS HE HAS HELPED THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES WITH GAMING ENHANCEMENTS HERE IN NEW YORK. WITHOUT HIS INPUT AND ACTION, THERE WOULD NOT BE AS MANY AERIE'S HERE IN NEW YORK AS THERE IS TODAY. SOME OF OUR AERIE'S WOULD NOT SERVIVE WITHOUT GAMING ASSETS.
