11/01/2006 - A Congratulatory Note From David Dormus Eastern Regional President Concerning Aerie #3818 Rebuild
I just wanted to Thank All of the State officers of NY and all of the officers and members of Horseheads Aerie #3818 for all of there hospitality.
You guys should all be proud of yourselves for this major undertaking, to rebuild and Aerie from the ground up was truly a task that I am sure was not easy. I have been watching the progress of this Aerie for several months and was happy to see it reopen once again. The teamwork that I heard of with all of the Brothers and Sisters building and cleaning and repairing is what this great Fraternity is all about, People Helping People. I also would like to say that I really think State President Joe Piano looked very good with more hair, this may be the reason that Corky gave me her glasses, however the underlying reason that I could not see well may have been because of the shots they were pumping into me. Well guys I hope to see you all again along the Eagles trail wherever that may lead us God Bless you all and as I always will say " Be happy be proud and always be an Eagle"
Fraternally;
David Doremus
Eastern Regional President
P.S.- Alberta you know I love you
10/31/2006 - Grand Opening Party For Horseheads Aerie #3818
Hi,
It was great to see everyone! Please thank everyone for coming to our Grand opening party. It was a riot!
If anyone ended up with the wrong pair of glasses, or an extra pair??? (haha) They belong to me. We were sharing them to look in the book for songs for the d.j. to play. And I misplaced them! Oh well....Maybe Dave ended up with them?
I will send you pictures, please make sure to forward them on. I know Joe and Dave will probably misplace some of the pictures...
Joe wants hair and Dave wants our cook (Alberta) under his Christmas Tree this year!
Many Thanks to All,

09/26/2006 New York State Racing and Wagering Board 2005 Annual Report
On September 19, 2006 I received the 2005 R&W annual report with some interesting facts. The 34 New York Fraternal Order of Eagle Aeries sold $7,668,259.00 of Bell Jar tickets. This means that it’s confirmed that the Eagles in New York State gave $2,556,086.33 to charity last year. That’s $304.30 per member in New York. One month ago, the mandated charity donation was eliminated but we know our Aerie’s will continue to support charities. More details can be reviewed online www.racing.state.ny.us.

07/09/2006 - Canajoharie (Boiling Pot) Aerie #3846 Flooded

Wider view of Canajoharie and widespread flooding. Water is at the rooftops of one-story buildings downtown.
Photos were taken by a Montgomery County Deputy Sheriff

Canajoharie (Boiling Pot) Aerie #3846 got flooded during the recent storms in June. Water is at the rooftops of one-story buildings downtown - in the very lower right of that picture is the Canajoharie Aerie #3846 building. It's the dark brick building with the dark roof (next to the building with the white roof).
Past Aerie President and current Trustee, Mike Repko, is working to put things back together again. If you'd like further details or would like to assist in some way (cards and/or letters of support).
Mike can be reached at: 107 Moyer Street, Canajoharie, New York 13317 518-673-8091or email: mike.repko@kraft.com
The repairs on the building will cost more then we paid for it. The building has three floors. The Aerie Meeting room is on the second floor and was not flooded but the Aerie Social Room didn't escape the water. Mike has checked with FEMA and it doesn't appear that they are going to do anything to help. I'm sure that Senator Farley (State Aerie Hall of Fame Member) and Assemblyman Paul Tonko will do what they can to help.
Thanks Mike for all of your efforts to put things back together again.
Fraternally,
Bob Yager -

07/09/2006 - Flood 2006 Canajoharie Eagles 3846
Thought I would share some PICS of what our Eagles has been up against ... in the midst of all the mess and muck ... we did pull off a wedding (The bachelor party ... was the most productive EVER ... we managed to get both basements cleaned out ... slapped a clean shirt on the groom ... got them Hitched ... and went back to work..)...The Church caught fire ... and needless to say ... we had to hold the reception else where.... I think the last count was 34 homes have been condemned in our area..Still a ton of work to do..... but at least now after a week and 3 days of no power ... we now have that!
Thanks

06/03/2006 - Rensselaer Eagles March in Memorial Day Parade
The Rensselaer Aerie, Auxiliary and Junior Eagles #4446 marched in the Rensselaer Memorial Day Parade on May 28th. New York State Worthy President Michael Hoag marched with them.
The Eagles in the parade started off with a color guard followed by N.Y.S. Worthy President Michael Hoag, then the men of the Aerie followed with a float depicting the placing of the flag at Iwa Jima (with live people) followed by the Rensselaer Junior Eagles.
The Ladies Auxiliary followed with another float carrying all the flags and those that could not march but wanted to be in the parade.
The Eagles Theme Song “Where Eagles Fly” was played and also on the float was a Large statue of an Eagle.
A 1927 Chevrolet driven by an Eagle member followed the float (Harry Stewart’s third car?).
The Parade ended at the Rensselaer War Monument at Hyuck Square. After the ceremonies, trophies were awarded and the Eagles won 1st place for the best float depicting the parade theme and the Rensselaer Junior Eagles won 1st place for best youth group
06/02/2006 - New York Racing & Wagering Board Seminar Highlights
The New York State Racing and Wagering Board held a seminar on June 1, 2006. Here are the highlights:
The IRS has asked Racing and Wagering to put each organizations federal tax ID number on all Racing and Wagering forms. It appears that the IRS is trying to collect on unrelated income (selling to the public). New York State law states that all games of chance are open to the public. Please remember that ALL Eagle Aerie’s have a wavier from Racing and Wagering stating that each Aerie has the option not to sell to the public therefore the income from gaming is all related income and not subject to tax.
Total gaming handle last year was $280,000,000.00 and is done in New York State by $20,000,000.00.
Bingo Bonus Ball legislation has passed the Senate.
Many other items were discussed and will be reported on at the upcoming New York State Convention.
Thanks to the Eagle members who attended this session:
Dave Cook, Don Yanchunis, Tom Hammond, Jon Badi, Ed Gradwell, Colleen Gradwell, John Cramer and Myself Bob Yager

The 2008 State Officers Spring Conference was awarded to the Cobleskill Aerie. Cobleskill Aerie gave a very informative presentation and won the New York State Aerie Executive Board confidence that they will do an excellent job conducting their first ever conference.
Thanks to the other Aerie's for putting in bids for the 2008 Spring Conference. We know all could do a great job.
Please remember we will be acting on future meetings two years ahead of time. The delegates at this year's convention will be deciding where the 2008 State Aerie Convention will be held. Please have your Aerie's submitt bids for the convention if they wish to host this event. Please know that the following information and presentation will aid in the awarding of hosting any State Aerie meeting:

There is an error in the April issue of the New York State Aerie newsletter, "The State Reporter". It was listed on the membership results page that Dan O'Neil is the Zone Two Director. Dan's name was pasted on that page in error. The Zone Two Director is and always has been Bryan Welch. I apologize for this error and for any problems this has caused anyone.

ELMIRA - Eagles Aerie #3818 Damaged By Fire
A fire heavily damaged the Horseheads Eagles Club on Westside Avenue in Elmira on Friday night.
Elmira Fire Department Deputy Chief Dan Sincock said people inside the club smelled smoke sometime after 8 p.m., and when they went outside, they could see smoke billowing out. Although flames weren't visible from the outside, the fire was burning throughout the building in the walls, Sincock said. It was so extensive it was impossible to tell where the fire started, he said.
The fire marshal was called to the scene to try to determine a cause.
All the people inside the building escaped without injury, Sincock said.
