A Note From Our Friends At The Arthritis Foundation: May the wonder
and beauty of the season fill your heart with happiness.
Dear Bob & All the Great Folks at F.O.E. NYS Aerie:
During this special season of giving we wish to thank those who have supported
the Arthritis Foundation, NENY Chapter, and our mission to improve the lives
of those affected by arthritis and related diseases. By working together we
are making great strides in helping people take greater control of the nation's
Number one cause of disability. On behalf of the Arthritis Foundation, NENY
Chapter and the nearly 300,000 Capital District residents affected by arthritis,
we sincerely appreciate
your generosity and friendship
May you have a joyous and healthy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Brian J. McDonald, Senior V.P.

January 2003 State Secretary Article
2003 Grand Aerie Hospitality Room
HELP! Since the Grand Aerie Convention is in Buffalo this year, the New York
State Aerie plans to welcome the rest of the fraternity by hosting a quality
hospitality room at the Grand Aerie Convention. Besides what is in our budget,
we expect the cost of putting on a high quality hospitality room to be $3,000
to $4,000 above our budget. Without your help, we just can't do it. Please
send in any and all donations to the State Aerie and mark the check in the
memo section "Hospitality Room". A printout of those donating to
the hospitality room will be posted in the room. If you would like a message
on this printout rather than your name, please attach a paper with your wishes
(In the Memory of Don Rettinger, etc.). A special thanks to Lou and Tammy Osmon
for their help with the hospitality room. Pete Vaughn, Grand Aerie Hospitality
Room Chairman Block out Rooms for the Grand Aerie Convention There has been
some interest in blocking out rooms in the headquarters hotel at the Grand
Aerie Convention. If you're sure your going to the convention in Buffalo, please
let the State Secretary know by January 15th and he'll block the number of
rooms needed.
Grand Aerie Hall of Fame
The New York State Aerie has submitted Don Rettingers name for Grand Aerie
Hall of Fame. The Grand Aerie Hall of Fame Committee will be meeting in February
to make their decision. I encourage anyone, any Member, Aerie, Auxiliary, REACT
or any other group to write into Grand Aerie supporting Donnie for the Grand
Aerie Hall of Fame. Wouldn't it be nice to have his name selected and announced
at this years Grand Aerie Convention in Buffalo? Please take a few moments
of your time and send in your support for Donnie to: Fraternal Order of Eagles,
Grand Aerie Hall of Fame Committee, c/o The Grand Worthy Presidents Office,
1623 Gateway Circle

December 2002
It's hard to believe that it's been a year since the
passing of State Secretary Don Rettinger. We miss him. To honor him we changed
the name of the State Arthritis Fund to the Don Rettinger State Arthritis Fund.
The State Aerie is supporting his nomination to the Grand Aerie Hall of Fame.
A letter will be going into the Grand Aerie this month with our letter of support
and with the resolution passed at the Eastern Regional Conference held in Rochester.
All grants that have been sent to the State Secretary have been processed.
This month a complete grant-processing package will be sent to all Aerie Secretaries,
State Officers and Past State Presidents. This package contains all the information
you need to apply for a grant. If you know of charity that you'd like to see
receive a grant, please consider spending the time to submit it. Any questions
on grants can be directed to the State Secretary at 518.218.1015.
As the holiday season approaches, we're reminded that it's time for families
and a time of renewal. We wish you a happy holiday and hope the New Year brings
you success and happiness.

Sad News From Watertown
Past State President Harold “Skip” Grant passed
away on Saturday, September 28, 2002. Skip was introduced to the Fraternal
Order of Eagles in the fall of 1980 when one of his hunting buddies, Past Worthy
President Bob Hutton, took him to the Watertown Aerie. In February 1981, Skip
became a member of the Eagles. At the very first meeting Skip attended, his
was asked to sit in as the Outside Guard and at his second meeting he was asked
to be the Inside Guard. Skip continued to work his way up the ranks of leadership
and became the Watertown Aerie President in 1984 and 1985. In 1985, Ray Haggerty
asked Skip to be the Zone Two Membership Director and in 1986 Al Hubbard repeated
the request and Skip was the Zone Two Membership Director for a second time.
Skip was very proud of the fact that he was able to complete his duties of
making two visitations to each Aerie in Zone Two. Skip served on many committees
in the Watertown Aerie and in the State Aerie.
At the 1992 State Convention held in Watertown Skip was elected as a New York/Eastern
Ontario State Aerie Trustee and continued to become a New York State Aerie
President.
His favorite sports were hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling. He was also
a bow hunter instructor for over 45 years and was a bow hunter coordinator
of Jefferson County.
Skip was in the Marine Corp and served in Korea.
Skip’s family and his eagle family were very important to him. Skip enjoyed
meeting his old friends and making new friends on the Eagle trail since 1981.
Skip’s wife is Sue Grant (State Auxiliary President this year) Son Harold
P. (Buzz) Grant, Step Daughters Marlynne Farr, Michele Wayte Step Sons Merritt
Reynolds III and John Reynolds.
Viewing will be on Wednesday October 2nd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at D.L.
Calarco Funeral Home, 135 Keyes Avenue, Watertown, New York.
The Funeral will be on Thursday October 3rd at 11 A.M.
A luncheon will follow at the Eagles Aerie.
